Many things are going on. 2006 will be a year of change and new things. Kingdom Hearts 2, Final Fantasy XII, the PS3…
Seriously though, there are things to happen that are more significant. Like my possible trip to UK for a year, for instance. Nothing’s concrete right now, but signs are good that I’m going.
At times I don’t know how I feel about it. It’s an opportunity for sure, but it’s quite a daunting prospect at the same time. The thing that scares me the most is leaving behind all the loved ones and people I care about. It scares me because I know I will miss out on the lives of these people. A lot happens in a year, and people change and grow and experience new things, and I won’t be here to be a part of their lives. I’m definitely gonna be homesick quite a lot over the year or so that I’m gone.
And I’m so gonna be teary-eyed at the airport. ![]()
yeah understand how you feel.. like how i miss you cuz!
vampires and mafia and all the hang-outs!
take care xoxo
I will be teary eyed too most probably!
We surely definitely will miss you Ches!
Honestly speaking though, the PS3 will cost an initial $800 or $900 US so imo it’s not worth getting at all – the Xbox 360 is much cheaper and offer better games, may it be less variety but higher quality. Halo 3 and Half-Life 2 on the Xbox 360 :c However the good thing is that UT2007 will be one of the launch titles and UT2007 honestly rocks – just like its predcessor the UT2004. Oh and the Graphics card for the PS3 is a 7900GTX – the new card soon to be announced by Nvidia. Costs over $400 – 500 US though and not being pathetic but PS3 seems to like copying Xbox 360. This year would be fun however, console wars – Revolution VS Xbox 360 VS PS3. Rumours say that the Revolution will be far different from the Gamecube but of course, has backwards compatability. On the computer front, AMD and Intel battle it out – Intel’s new Merom, Conroe, Woodcrest/whatever cores VS AMD’s New Orleans, Manila, Palomino, Windsor/whatever other core names and on the graphics cards side, it is ATi’s new X1900XTX versus Nvidia’s 7900 GTX which is said to be of dual-GPUs so let’s prepare for 2006 – the most fun year in electronics nerd history.
Kingdom Hearts 2, oh yeah.
[Cait] Miss you too hehe.
[Alex] Actually, there isn’t a concrete price as yet. The only prices are predictions cited by analysts.
In terms of power, the Xbox 360 isn’t actually more powerful than the PS3. The reverse is said to be true, i.e. the PS3 is held to be more powerful than the 360, though many developers say the difference between power isn’t much, which means both are probably on the same level, regardless of who copies who.
As for the 360 offering better games, maybe you’re right, and maybe not. Sony has always had a history of great games, and whether the XBox or PS2 had better games is all a matter of opinion. One thing’s for sure– PS2 definitely had more variety. The Microsoft problem has always been a lack of noteworthy games. I’d rather have a console with 50 good games than a console with 3 incredible games. Plus, given the fact that I’m not a fan of Halo, Half-Life or UT, and coupled with the fact that many of the noteworthy titles (to me at least) currently on the 360 aren’t exactly next-gen, the 360 simply holds no appeal for me. And I’m not really into PC gaming either.
I dunno, it somehow seems to me that Microsoft is set to strike out a 2nd time. Then again, you can never predict these things. But I do know one thing– I’ll always be Playstation’s b!tch.
Actually it IS true that graphics-wise, the PS3 is better – it uses a 7900 GTX whereas the Xbox uses a X850PLE or something or an X1600XTX. However, when it comes to CPU power, the Xbox 360’s triple power cell is much better than the PS3’s CPU. And the reason why we have consoles is for games. There’s no real point in getting a console if you only want one game, imo. Sony had a great history of games due to the fact it had the PS1 and PS2 and was always being a prick about which games are allowed on the PS2.
For example, did you know that Sony only allowed 3D games or games with decent graphics on the PS2? Yes, there were some PS2 2D games on the PS2, but since Sony realised they were absolute crap, they decided to say “screw 2D, go 3D!” If you’ve noticed btw, most of the most awesome console games come from the Xbox. Microsoft is stupid though. Most of the games for the Xbox were handpicked. Microsoft didn’t exactly accept all the games for the Xbox. Most of the good ones or titles that have been known worldwide from PC or other consoles that have been ported have been accepted, however. Half-Life 2 is such an example. UT2007 is a PS3 launch thing because it is based on Nvidia graphics although can be played on ATi graphics as well. I guess Sony and Microsoft were being pricks about it. Usually consoles were made for fun and entertainment but it seems alot of people are going for the PS3 basically because they are “biased”. There is no real reason to be biased to the PS3 – it is absolutely expensive. Many sites have absolutely confirmed it and the controller for the PS3 is ugly as hell. I’m planning to get the Revolution since I’m a Nintendo fanboi and since I’ve got the gamecube anyway. I was planning to get the Xbox 360 but what’s the point of getting both Xbox 360 and Gamecube when the games for the consoles arent compatible with each other. Oh, and the Revolution’s controller might have a touch pad. :> Another advantage the Xbox and Xbox 360 offer is a HARDDISK. You can not only store saved games on it, you can backup whatever data on your computer onto your console harddisk and you can upgrade it almost anytime. Your average 250 GB harddisk in Singapore would cost ~$200++ for SATA/SATAII. This is HUGE for S$200+. A 400 GB or 500 GB harddisk would cost around S$250 – 350 depending on brand and intereface. PS2/PS3 memory cards are a PITA to keep on buying, especially since you need like hundreds for fifty games as you claim where you only need ONE harddisk for 100 games on the Xbox/360. And since the Xbox 360 is using a SATA interface, you’ve got 1.5gb/s data of transfer. Most of the best games in the world are first person shooters, then again, PCs are the best ever. You can never beat PCs.
And seriously, the ORIGINAL PS2 games are MUCH more expensive that the Xbox’s ORIGINAL games. You all like the PS2 because you guys are pirates. Evil :[ DOWN WITH PIRACY!
In terms of the controller, I like it. Many have said the design is a ripoff of the old 3rd party Alps Interactive controller for the PS, because it looks so similar. So the design isn’t new to me. It’s designed to be ergonomic. I don’t care if it’s ugly if it handles like a dream. The biggest nail in the XBox coffin was the piece-of-sh!t controller.
And since I’m not a first-person shooter fan, the PC isn’t my cup of tea. It’s just an Internet machine to me.
And actually, there IS a reason for me to be biased towards the PS3– Final Fantasy. I love the PS2 because the PS was my first console and it was on it that I played Final Fantasy VII, my favourite game of all time. So is it a bias? Yes. But what was once a sentimental bias has grown into a variety-preference bias, i.e. it just so happens that the Playstation consoles have more to offer me than other consoles in terms of games. I don’t care too much about what kind of chip or processor or whatever other hardware my next-gen console uses.
All I want are games that will give me that warm fuzzy feeling inside.
The Final Fantasy series is overrated. There are plenty more RPGs out there that are far better. What’s more is that FPSes and RTSes simply laugh at RPGs as RPGs can be very annoying and gay. You have to do this and do that and blah. It’s annoying. FPS is just pure blood, gore and death. That rocks. RTS requires lots of brain power to strategise and attack your enemies. RPGs are dull as hell. Alll you do is “Attack!” “Defend!” “Receive Attack!” “Item activate!” “Spell activate” and it is very repetitive.
I beg to differ. But to each his own, my young friend.
